New classes and a full schedule

September 7, 2008

It is late on Sunday and I just wanted to recap our week and get a few things out there.

1. We had a great week. Tons of activities and new clients to keep us busy. Monday was Labor Day and that was a great day of rest. All of us at the McCabe household slept until about noon. Wednesday, we started our classes at the Evergreen City Ballet in Renton. Although no one was there for me to teach, I had a good time getting my “Lack of a home field advantage” jitters out of the way with no one there. Thursday will be #2. I took all of Friday off in order for me to become a Professional Rescuer from the Red Cross. I know what you all are thinking… “Is that another thing to add to your name plate?” Well kind of. I needed the Cert. for the Swimming coach position that I applied for. But, it is always nice to have the training and CPR, AED, First Aid knowledge. It was a long day being in class from 8 until 4 and then driving back to the studio for a 5:30 duet, which was great. With those kind of hours it is almost like I have a “real” job. Saturday I taught 4 dancers at the Ballet center and had a blast. I drove from there to the Eastgate Park and ride and took the bus to the Husky game. That was a sad loss to witness. An underdog showing excitement after coming within one point to a team ranked #15 is penalized for that excitement. Sunday, Crystal and I came up with a whole new strategy for our classes. That will be #3. That was about it for us, for the week of events.

2. Thursday was a great day of self realizations. I realized that I can not allow more people into a class that I have pre planned, and expect me to still be able to accomplish all of my goals with the class. This happened in Power Class. My goal with Power class is not to just kick some butts, (I can do that in a Mat class) it is to get into some advanced work that does not get taught in other classes. I wanted to have pre-requisites and teacher authorization for the class. I let that slide and let to many people in class. Now I am not saying that I thought that the class was bad It was just not what I was planning for. I know what a lot of you are going to say (“Not a lot of what you plan for turns out the way you want, that is just life.”) I understand that but I am providing a service to you, our clients, and I can control most of the variables that do go into teaching classes in order to ensure that you have a good safe workout. If I put a class on the schedule, and you sign up for that class, I hope that I can meet your needs and expectations without too much compromise. So… out of all of this, Power class is now closed to 4. If you (our clients) would like us to open another please let us know.

3. Our new class scheduling plan. If you look at the new schedule it might seem like we are nuts. Well we are not nuts. We are just trying to provide you with a multitude of classes to choose from. We are trying to set up some consistency to our schedule. The fullness of this schedule will be the same through December. What will change will be teachers and class types depending on your response and feedback. So please let us know what you think.

4. We are also going to be having a “FOCUS of the Week”. This is something that we will be posting in our studio and incorporating into our classes. Lets say that the FOCUS is “Inner Thighs” then that whole week we will be focusing one section of each class on the inner thighs. We will also teach you what to do at home, as well as some interesting facts about each FOCUS. I am thinking about having people sign up for a weekly newsletter if they wanted to and I would send out an e-mail with health tips, the weekly focus, and more. That would be voluntary though. The monthly newsletter we send out to all of our contacts. This would be different. Let me know what you think.

Wow, that was a lot… I am out. PM

Hello world!

August 31, 2008

Well, I guess that this is a moment in history for me. I have finally started a blog. That is right me and a blog in the same sentence. I am actually excited about this and am committing to update it on a regular basis. I will be making this Blog a place for information, tips, and updates about Pilates, our studio and health in general. So please comment, subscribe and tell your friends to do the same. Here’s to health and happiness.
